Winnaars Theater Aan Zee 2006
Groeten uit Oostende
As from 2006, 'Theater aan Zee' in Ostend is called simply 'TAZ'. During the festival experienced theatre and music hands selected four winners in the 'young dynamism' category. Studio Villanella is offering you the chance to see them at work on the evenings of Friday 1 and Saturday 2 September. On both evenings you can watch a theatre act and a concert.
FRIDAY 1 SEPTEMBER
Theatre . Ich bin alleine
Steffie Van Cauter, who last year graduated from the 3D Department at the academy of art in Ghent, is 'quite a dame'. Whether she shows animated films, plays the accordion or sings an opera aria in 'Ich bin alleine', the result is always intriguing and more than the sum of the parts. Although a lot of young creative people feel called upon to experiment with a variety of disciplines, not all of them succeed in using them to good effect. Steffie does.
Music . Rianto del Rue
Rianto del Rue, whose name is probably actually Smith like you and me, is 15 years old and must have been conceived under the stage at a concert or backstage at a singer-songwriter festival. His songs already display an astonishing maturity and he performs them with incredible flair. He was also the winner of Kunstbende 2006.
SATURDAY 2 SEPTEMBER
Theatre . 4.48 Psychosis
It was originally announced that Liesa Naert would give a Dutch performance of '4.48 Psychosis' by the British writer Sarah Kane, but for practical reasons the original English version was selected, which the jury does not regret. Liesa, now starting her final year at Ghent Conservatory, is already an outstanding actress. Her monologue, although conventional in form, plucked at one's heartstrings. There was no getting away from it.
Music . Aidi
He was born in South Africa and has lived in Belgium for years. He writes songs that tell very personally what is on his mind, both in his private life and in the world. Committed, without pathos or false sentimentality, even in the songs about himself. A superb voice, and songs whose African roots are clearly discernible. The jury found this among the strongest material shown, both his solo set and the concert with his group.
