On the eve of the second edition of Digitize Me!, Mutale Nkonde sits down with Paola Verhaert for a conversation. In doing so, we welcome two leading experts in the field of AI. In 2020, Nkonde founded AI for the People, a non-profit organization dedicated to the responsible development of AI. She advocates for policies that reduce algorithmic discrimination (bias) and promote fair AI practices. Nkonde has served, among other roles, as an advisor to the United Nations and the Biden-Harris administration. Over the past five years, she has also been a member of the TikTok Advisory Council, where she examined how online discourse influences offline behavior. In this exclusive conversation, Nkonde and Verhaert explore how the use of AI by online platforms affects minority communities – and what is at stake today in the fight for digital justice.
