De Nachten 2005
Who would ever have suspected that the commemoration of Paul van Ostaijen would lead to a marvellous accident called De Nachten? This clash of words, music and images has now been going on for ten years. 'The Collapse of All Concepts'.
In 2004 Antwerp is the World Book Capital. A fine excuse for more globalisation: we seek out the roots of storytellers, hiphop artists and spoken-word performers. We recruit our badmouths, committed dubbers and furious rappers from the triangle formed by Europe, Africa and the USA.
Fine words! De Nachten continues its hunt for the 'foreign' voices in Flanders. Columns and life stories by Nadia Dala, Chika Unigwe and many others. Jan van Loy, Peter Terrin and Koen Peeters - Flemish writers with remarkable books. They do exist!
Antwerp, World Book Capital? De Nachten provides an answer with a fine selection of young talent from Nigeria, USA, Uganda, England and Chechnya.
Literature and image. Installations, video-clips, darkrooms, short films. Projects by: Spinvis, Benjamin Verdonck, Joost Zwagerman, Josse De Pauw, Bas Haring, Paul Demets, Hans Op de Beeck, Marjolein Houweling, Kader Abdollah, and others.
Youth! Really young talent from 'Kunstbende' and 'inktaap'.
Can art exist without naked women? L.P. Boon didn't think so: wonder at his Fenomenale Feminatheek, never previously seen.
De Mens comes to launch his new theatre tour.
Jules Deelder and John Cooper Clarke, an unpublished duet by the two last punk poets.
A Solex, congenial DIY pop full of unexpected and obscure samples from blues and forgotten pop records.
Have the conversation of your life in the Living Library.
