Andrea Fraser

Andrea Fraser (USA, °1965) is een performancekunstenaar uit New York, die vooral bekend is om haar ironiserende kritiek op de kunstwereld. Haar wellicht bekendste werk is de performance 'Museum Highlights' (1989) waarin zij als gids een rondleiding door het Philadelphia Museum of Art geeft. Over de alom presente cafetaria zegt zij daarbij het volgende: "This room represents the heyday of colonial art in Philadelphia on the eve of the Revolution, and must be regarded as one of the very finest of all American rooms". In andere performances imiteert zij een dronken Martin Kippenberger ('Make Your Own Life: Artists In & Out of Cologne' 1995) of neemt als strippende openingsspreker de ceremonies van kunstprijzen op de korrel ('Official Welcome', 2001). Zij had recent solotentoonstellingen in het Frans Halsmuseum, Haarlem (2007), Friedrich Petzel Gallery, New York (2007), Wexner Center for the Arts (2006), Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (2005), Dunkers Kunsthus, Helsingborg, Sweden (2003) Kunstverein en Hamburg (2003). Zij is docent aan UCLA en was gastdocent aan Cooper Union, Columbia University, Bard College en Städelschule, Frankfurt.
