Sarah & Charles

Charles Blondeel en Sarah Deboosere zijn de twee personen achter het kunstenaarsduo Sarah & Charles. Ze werken en leven in Brussel, waar ze ook werden geboren. Ze studeerden aan het Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten (HISK) in Gent. Ze hebben reeds verscheidene projecten op hun naam, zoals 'Arteconomy' (een project in een textielfabriek), 'Concrete burden - component two' (een opdracht voor deSingel in Antwerpen) en het decorontwerp van 'Thriller' (een voorstelling van Margaritaproduction). In 2009 en 2010 kregen ze een solotentoonstelling in Galerie Van der Mieden in Antwerpen en in 2008 in de Brakke Grond in Amsterdam.

'An artist duo is always something peculiar. The action and reaction of both partners, the situations of conflict that inevitably arise, can either have a crippling effect or conversely create an unseen dynamics. The result Sarah & Charles -both with a background of plastic arts- attempt to achieve is certainly not a schizophrenic extract of two separate visions, but rather confronts us with a powerful, yet complex image, originate from a twofoldness. The surroundings they create are like dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet, in which film and theatre merge, past and present fuse. Time and memory always play an important part. The technical perfection often results in a surprising effect. Usually the public becomes an essential constituent of the work, i.e. without the public, the work does not exist. This link certainly enhances the intensity of our experience of the work, which often becomes a play that involves elements of appearance and disappearance, presence and absence of characters.'
