'Realarchitektur' and the politicised landscape, activism and participation are among the key concepts in the work of this architectural firm founded by Arno Brandlhuber & Co. and Bernd Kniess Architekten Stadtplaner in 1996. From the very beginning this firm established itself as a collective (to which the '+' in their name refers) that seeks synergy with other disciplines. For this exhibition the group comprises brandlhuber&co (Cologne division) + a42.org (Master of Architecture study group in Nuremberg) + Martin Burckhardt (author and culture theorist, Berlin) + Andreas Roth (artist, Göteborg).
In addition to the actual execution of architectural briefs they attach a great deal of importance to reflecting on, questioning and translating architecture. Last year, in connection with this exhibition, for example, b&k+ requested a broad public to let them know "where they most wanted to live, make love or die". They analysed the visual matter submitted and this should result in an urban planning model for a community. The publication that accompanies the exhibition will be a novel about the fictional character 'Brandlhuber', written by the German cult-author Martin Burckhardt.
