How can you become someone else while remaining yourself? This quest forms the starting point of Marlene Monteiro Freitas' solo performance. 'Guintche' is the name this impressive Cape Verde dancer gave to a figure that she drew during a concert. Guintche metamorphoses continuously from one character to the next. Freitas moves in a particularly expressive but also mechanical way to the tones of persistent, furious rhythms. Her brightly coloured clothes give the whole thing an exotic or even carnival feel. Freitas appears to go into a trance. Or is she performing a ritual? Openness, impurity and intensity: in this creation there is no lack of the staple ingredients that typify her style of movement. Marlene Monteiro Freitas studied dance in Brussels and Lisbon, where she lives and works.
