Nacera Belaza

The Algerian choreographer Nacera Belaza has already built up a considerable career. 'Le Cri' is a turning point. It earned her the prize for the choreographic revelation of 2008. Ever since her youth her art has been forbidden because it was considered too seductive or frivolous and therefore not in line with her Muslim faith. Since then she has sought ways to bring together her religious convictions and her dance. Faithful to her way of life and view of the world 'Le Cri' is characterised by its restraint. Nevertheless, this duet, which Nacera Belaza dances together with her sister, is overflowing with sensuality. It is a musing on man and his desire for spirituality, but does not lose sight of pleasure and enjoyment. An absolute gem.
