Sujata Goel and Tarek Halaby had already made a name for themselves while studying at PARTS with 'Disco Dancer', a short and truly sparkling duet inspired by B-films and Bollywood kitsch.
'Nightlife' continues in the same direction and explores the relationship between dance and cinema in greater depth. This time, Goel and Halaby draw not only from the colourful Bollywood tradition, but also ferret around in the work of such 'serious' film directors as Sirk and Fassbinder to see how they show melodrama and human relationships.
We see an anonymous couple at various stages in their relationship. One of the factors that defines their identity is their solitude in a world dominated by the media. Goel and Halaby play with characters and storylines that take shape in popular dance scenes. It's dance drama!
