In an era when the boundaries of art are constantly being pushed back, COME CLOSER - a unique collaboration between DE SINGEL, the Middelheimmuseum and the city of Antwerp - introduces an innovative approach to the interaction between artists, their works and the public. This initiative challenges traditional conceptions of art by transforming not only the physical form of artworks, but also the way we as spectators interact with and respond to these works. COME CLOSER reflects not only on contemporary art, but also on our daily lives, in which we constantly assume different roles and interact with our surroundings. COME CLOSER invites us to rethink our usual roles and explore new ones, a playful invitation to look at ourselves and our interactions differently.
As part of COME CLOSER, DE SINGEL presents four stage productions. For the summer close you will experience works by Florentina Holzinger and Amanda Piña, in September Stef Van Looveren and Anthea Hamilton complete the line-up. Moreover, we are proud to unveil an impressive permanent sculpture by Temitayo Ogunbiyi, a visual anchor point on the renovated square in front of DE SINGEL.
The festive kick-off of COME CLOSER will take place on 7 and 8 June with a special performance by Elen Braga. Against the imposing outer wall of the Red Hall, three dancers flounder in a battle with a giant. On 7 June, there will also be an opening party where DJ Bibi Seck will fill the evening with sultry beats. Come Closer!
