Footwork has its origins in Chicago (Wikipedia). In around 2007, weekly encounters that arose from the city’s street culture led to a new genre in which a new musical tempo goes hand in hand with fast dance footwork. This is the first time that this underground battle dance has been kneaded into a dance performance. The electronic-produced footwork music serves as the starting point and source of inspiration for the soundtrack by the brothers Bert and Stijn Cools (granvat), who improvise to dissect and rebuild the genre on synth guitar and electronic drum. Choreographer Quan Bui Ngoc (Les Ballets C de la B) and Sirr TMO (Teklife crew), one of the instigators of this dance form, and six other dancers enter into dialogue with the music and combine the power and improvisation of the footwork with the suppleness and techniques of contemporary dance.
