In de voetsporen van Rumi
Wat je zoekt, zoekt jou. Intense muziek en mystieke poëzie van Jalal ad-Din Rumi
Kader Abdolah walks with us in the footsteps of the Persian poet Jalal ad-Din Rumi.
The great 13th-century Persian poet Jalal ad-Din Rumi left behind a treasure trove of more than 100,000 verses. For centuries, his mystical poetry inspired musicians, writers and artists. In his poems, Rumi emphasised the importance of an open heart. The love of mankind, nature and God are central themes in his work and still appeal to many people. In his poetry, Rumi often alluded to music. With author Kader Abdolah as a guide, and together with a number of highly reputed musicians, we devote a day to Rumi’s intoxicating poetry.

Saturday's Triple Bill - in the footsteps of Rumi highlights the mystic poet's verses with author Kader Abdolah as listening guide. After his expert introduction to the intoxicating Persian poetry, there will be an immersion in the setting of Rumi's musical language.
Kiya Tabassian set some of Rumi's texts for his Ensemble Constantinople. The Persian and Arabic poetry he selected builds a bridge between East and West, as is the ensemble's custom, and finds its own sophisticated voice in the guise of Ghalia Benali.
That same bridge is built by gambist Romina Lischka and her Hathor Consort. From the spinning movement of the Turning Dervishes - a Sufi order founded by Rumi's followers - they create an expanding range of Turkish music and medieval improvisations in search of aesthetic ecstasy.
