In 2018, B’Rock Orchestra snagged leading conductor and specialist René Jacobs to embark together upon an exploration of Schubert’s nine symphonies. Part of this ambitious project is already on sale, and part of it is currently being performed on the big concert stages. ‘Die Große’ by Franz Schubert is perhaps one of the most beautiful symphonies ever written. And undoubtedly Schubert’s most important orchestral work. It is also the last he was able to finish, due to his untimely death. Here he reaches the pinnacle of his musical ability in a monumental creation, an eternally youthful masterpiece. When he composed it, Robert Schumann wrote that this symphony had created an effect that had not been felt since the creation of Beethoven’s symphonies. With an outstanding melodic richness, here we are most certainly hearing the most sensitive of romantics. Anyone who has heard the previous Schubert recordings from the complete works by René Jacobs and B’Rock Orchestra will be eagerly looking forward to this undoubtedly colourful and sparkling interpretation.
