Brussels Philharmonic is getting a new captain in the 22-23 season. Following his stint at the Monnaie Opera House, Chief Conductor Kazushi Ono returns to an orchestra from the Belgian capital. The Japanese maestro already proves that he has an immediate grasp of their DNA with his first concert tour, which also includes a stop at DE SINGEL - as part of the festival Mythos: Tristan & Isolde. With its impressive brass motifs – which Messiaen based on Wagner's Tristan chord – and its immense percussion section, Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony is a perfect fit for Ono's elite group of musicians. Brussels Philharmonic thrives in this epic, multicoloured, 20th-century repertoire. Jan Michiels – who previously warbled with the orchestra in the 21-22 season in Messiaen's Oiseaux exotiques – takes on the extremely challenging piano part. Whilst the ethereal, alienesque ondes Martenot solo is in the hands of Cynthia Millar. An icon on this unusual electronic keyboard instrument.
