Luc Brewaeys was a legend. Throughout his career, he maintained contact with deSingel, where many of his works were created. He named several of them after Scottish single malts, and he found the musical potential of a bottle organ every bit as exciting as that of a violin. He played with timbres with unparalleled gusto. This was not only to add colour: he derived the entire harmonic structure of his compositions from their rich sound spectra. His music therefore sounds as exotic as it is classical. There is always something exuberant and spectacular about it. One thing is certain: Brewaeys’ music enthuses all who hear it. This is why three leading Belgian ensembles are joining forces to present a unique portrait concert. At the helm is the Dutch conductor Ed Spanjaard, a world-famous champion of the 20th century repertoire.
