In ‘Along the Shores of Lorn’, which was created for Flanders Symphony Orchestra in 2005, Luc Brewaeys embraces post-modernism with flageolets, idiosyncratic counterpoint and a series of ravishing trumpet solos. An unrivalled symphonic opulence expressively unfolds in this atmospheric work of sound art. ‘Along the Shores of Lorn’ are the first words of the explanatory text on Oban whisky bottles. The work derives its basic ideas from the ensemble work ‘OBAN’. This is fireworks for orchestra. Extremely slow passages are interspersed with unbelievably fast virtuosity. A breathtaking work that is dedicated to the visual artist Mark Verstockt. Work by composers linked to the Antwerp Conservatoire completes the concert programme.
