Wim Henderickx (°1962) studied composition and percussion at the Royal Conservatoire of Music in Antwerp. He participated several times in the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt and attended sonology classes at IRCAM in Paris and at the Royal Conservatoire of Music in The Hague. He teaches composition and music analysis at the Conservatoire of Antwerp and of Amsterdam. Every year Musica organises a Summer Composition Workshop Wim Henderickx, for young composers. He is composer in Residence for Music Theatre Transparant. Wim Henderickx has composed chamber music, orchestral works and operas (published by CeBeDeM, Brussels) and he has been the recipient of numerous awards, both in Belgium and abroad. Foreign cultures are often a source of inspiration. The '3 Raga's' and 'Confrontations' (for African and Western percussion), are available on cd. His scores are characterized by their solid structure, changing, colourful sonorities and by their intensely expressive power. Following a trip through India and Nepal Wim Henderickx began work on his 'Tantric Cycle', a series of compositions with the East as source of inspiration. 'Void/Sunyata' for music theatre, 'Tejas' for orchestra and 'Mudra' for ensemble are parts in this cycle. 'Medea' for music theatre made a tour in Belgium and the Netherlands in 2011-2012 with Wim Henderickx as conductor. In 2013 this production will tour internationally. The Belgian National Orchestra (NOB) created his 'Symphony nr. 1' (At the Edge of the World) in March 2012 in Luxemburg and in Brussels. In 2011 two full albums with Wim Henderickx's work were released: 'Disappearing in Light' with Hermes Ensemble and 'Tejas and other orchestral works' with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic and Martyn Brabbins as conductor. On the occasion of Wim Henderickx's 50th birthday there were various concerts in 2012 and in October and November 2012 there will be premieres with his music by Blindman and Hermes Ensemble. Between 2013 and 2015 Wim Henderickx will be working on different commissions, such as a new orchestral work and works for music theatre and musical ensemble.
