ISCM World Music Days 2012

ISCM stands for International Society of Contemporary Music, the world's largest body for contemporary art music. Each year, one of the members of the society undertakes the organization of what is a 'world exhibition' for new music. This year, it is the turn of ISCM-Flanders. On the menu, eleven days' worth of concerts - thirty in total - in Brussels, Mons, Leuven, Ghent , Bruges and Antwerp between 25 October and 4 November 2012. And no less than seventy new works to hear, selected from four hundred and fifty-five entries from all around the globe, as well as forty Belgian compositions, seventeen of which were commissioned for the festival. The six cities will also be hosting several get-togethers, as well as colloquia, sound installations and workshops. Each partner has its own particular emphasis, the key words being 'diversity' and 'global showcase'. The 2012 World Music Days event is a unique opportunity to put Flemish composers in the international spotlight. Among the audiences will be representatives of the sixty official ISCM sections worldwide. The sole point of focus for the closing weekend of the festival will be deSingel, with no less than twenty-three works being heard for the first time in Belgium.
