In the spatial concert ‘Akasha - a brief theatre of everything’ the director and composer Daniel Cross and the Rosa Ensemble bring the pseudo-scientific ‘theory of everything’ by the philosopher and futurologist Ervin Laszlo to the stage. According to Laszlo, the universe can be read from an all-encompassing field of information (‘akasha’, based on a Hindu concept). This is how the performance begins. An omniscient narrator initiates the audience into the concept of ‘akasha’. There is beautiful music to accompany this: noise in various tones, protracted violin sounds, and here and there a sound effect from ‘Star Trek’. Words are spoken or repeated by many voices. The polyphonous singing is challenging and its timing is flawless. The chairs for the audience are set out in circles, around which the actors and musicians play, perform and narrate. The premiere of ‘Akasha’ was one of the highlights of Operadagen Rotterdam 2016.
