I Solisti del Vento . Bart Moeyaert
Olek schoot een Beer
'Olek shot a bear' doesn't immediately sound Russian. In this concert you will be completely immersed in a Russian atmosphere. Antwerp's official poet, Bart Moeyaert, based 'Olek shot a bear' on the Firebird, which he situates in a Russian forest. The little Olek undertakes an excursion into the forest and on the way he meets the good and the bad, man and beast and finally the Firebird. 'Olek' overflows with narrative pleasure, possesses a pithy rhythm and recurrences typical of a classical tale.
The music by the Flemish composer Wim Henderickx launches the tale with a burst. Together they take you to the finish as if on a rollercoaster. With fast passages and pauses, first accessible, then surprising, with unprecedented sounds, with instruments used in a particular manner, with emotions that continue to vibrate. The actual musical story lasts thirty minutes. Beforehand and afterwards you will experience all sorts of 'atmospheric impressions'. There is a sort of fore- and after-play with music and images, and drinks can be obtained in the foyer or round the hall. The concert is staged densely with lights, set, props, and the beautiful drawings of Wolf Erlbruch. Moeyaert also worked with him on the successful production of 'De Schepping'.
