Jan Michiels constructs a cathedral of piano music with Debussy, Couperin, Bach and Ligeti
Marcel Proust once compared his cycle of novels In Search of Lost Time to a cathedral. This got Jan Michiels thinking. He constructs a cathedral of piano music built upon poetic and associative foundations. From Proust’s contemporaries Claude Debussy and the lesser-known Gabriel Dupont, to Couperin and Bach, to the 20th century with works by György Ligeti. With live electronics and video footage inspired by the camera obscura, the leaps in time are interwoven.
