Quatuor Mosaïques - Wolfgang Meyer
The Quatuor Mosaïques presents a quartet evening that is simultaneously classical and adventurous. Mozart will start things off with the first of his six quartets dedicated to Haydn. The genius Mozart reached the height of his development in Vienna in 1782, a fact which had not escaped Joseph Haydn. Mozart thanked the old master for his recognition with this masterful piece.
Following this monument of quartet writing, Mosaïques ventures to perform arrangements by the cellist Christophe Coin of ten piano pieces by Robert Schumann. It will certainly be interesting to hear how the quartet gives expression to Schumann's piano creations.
In 1890, Johannes Brahms withdrew from Vienna's bustling public life. Shortly afterwards he wrote his Clarinet Quintet, which was to be one of his most perfect works. At its first performance in 1892 by the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld and the Joseph Joachim Quartet, the work was given a triumphant reception.
