All Arias 2023
Fri 21 Apr 2023 - Sat 22 Apr 2023
All Arias is the start of a new tradition, a biennial festival for musical theatre from Belgium and abroad. Cultural partners from Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent join forces for a packed and varied programme that will be take place in different cities simultaneously. During this first festival edition, literary classics and big stories from different continents will take centre stage. They will tell of exploitation and inequality and at the same time sing of a universal quest for freedom and justice. The first edition of All Arias will present a kaleidoscope of eastern and western musical traditions, from African chants to European avant-garde.
At DE SINGEL you can experience the world premiere of Woman at Point Zero, a gripping multimedia opera about exploitation and emancipation, inspired by the eponymous novel from the Egyptian writer and feminist Nawal El Saadawi. The age-old Tibetan Book of the Dead Bardo Thödol, in which the process of death and the transition to rebirth is described, was the basis for the exhibition Between Two Lights. The Netherlands Chamber Choir and HERMESensemble accompany you on the spiritual path between two worlds, in a performance directed by Karmina Šilec and with new music from Huang Ruo.
