Zwerm and singer Sarah Akbari write a new story that transcends newspaper headlines.
In this unique collaborative project, guitar quartet Zwerm and WALPURGIS, together with percussionist Karen Willems, Iranian singer Sarah Akbari, English storyteller Marie Phillips and Israeli director Raphael Rodan, explore the dark edges of seemingly innocent songs that lull children to sleep all over the world. They do this on the basis of a mythical story from Ovid's Metamorphosis. The story of Procne, queen, dutiful daughter, obedient wife, and loving mother. Until the day when she discovers that her sister has been terribly wronged...
Sung in Turkish, Kurdish, Hebrew, Persian, Mazandarani (Iranian language, spoken in the North of Iran), Bakhtiari (a south-western Iranian dialect) and Qashqai (Turkish language related to Azerbaijani),...
Sleep, sleep,
Give your sorrows, your pains to me.
Sleep, sleep,
The dark night is passing away.
Soon, my child,
The sun will banish the winter chill.
Only your father,
Oh, oh, if only he were here with me, with you.
