You discover (again) that hands are the medium to connect with the world, with others and with yourself.pzazz
Artist and DE SINGEL in-house artist Begüm Erciyas creates intimate performances that evoke an experience of both isolation and togetherness. In Hands Made she examines our ability to touch. By touching, we create a distance between ourselves and our environment, or we actually generate proximity and intimacy in our relationships. But what happens to touch when new technologies increasingly change our experience of ourselves and others?
In Hands Made the spectator's hands are central. Separated from the rest of the body, but close together, they are the focus of speculation about the past and future of hands, handiwork and touch. What have these hands done and what will they do in the future? Who or what will they touch?
Hands Madeinvites us to rethink our relationship to our hands, to imagine their transformation throughout history and their role in future society.
