BLISS: Adventurous vanguard of theatre and dance that pushes artistic boundaries.
Three times a year, the brand-new platform BLISS presents cutting-edge, experimental performance practices. Tomorrow’s dance and theatre landscape is shaped by artists who dare to step beyond the well-trodden paths. BLISS represents the joy of the unknown, the adventurous, the challenging. The first edition of BLISS features no fewer than four new co-productions from DE SINGEL.
During the first evening of BLISS #1 we present new work by choreographer and much sought-after performer Hanako Hayakawa. In Lurker she combines the popular Para Para dance style from Japan with elements of Noh Theatre. You can combine this performance with Paperplanes, the new performance from theatre maker Pankaj Tiwari. In an impressive and mesmerising installation, designed by visual artist Nick Verstand, Tiwari reflects on catch-all terms such as sustainability and mobility based on a personal story.
On Saturday, BLISS #1 is staging the new creation by theatre maker Carly Rae Heathcote. In BURN GLASS GATE three figures appear (flame, monument, mirror) in a hallucinogenic theatrical trip. How do we find meaning in an unstable world? This question also shines through in the work Black Hole by DJ, producer and composer Sara Dziri. In dialogue with choreographer Yasmina Tayoub, she explores the relationship between escapism and nightlife. A thrilling experience.
