Radiant Nights #7
Please Add Color: Day II
Radiant Nights #7 is an edition that’s full of love for Black art and its makers. With idiosyncratic and new names, chosen for their talent and critical vision of the art field. Curated by Kevin Kotahunyi, you have the opportunity to see and hear the broad spectrum of Black art in all its forms, from krump battles to talks!
Dance Battle
Get ready for a dance battle like never seen before at DE SINGEL! Under the approving eye of Hendrickx Ntela, world krump champion and ambassador for the dance style in Belgium, the country’s best krumpers will be leaving their heart and soul behind on the dancefloor.
What’s up for grabs? A cash prize of 300 or 600 euros, a Lockwood/Avenue goody bag and voucher that even your best friend will be jealous of! But above all you’ll win the honour of calling yourself the best krumper in Antwerp for at least one evening. What’s stopping you? We want to see blood, sweat and tears. Let’s go! We are organising two battles: Krump 1vs1 and All styles 3vs3.
Are you a battle dancer and would you like the chance to win this prize? If so, register now. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to krump. The participants also need supporters!
Talk: Behind The F(r)ame
Nadia Bourabain moderates a talk with speakers Nina Maat, Melissa Kurkut, Judith, Seckou and Salomé Ysebaert about the current state of affairs for makers of colour in the arts field. How do we look back? How do we look forward?
Samboleap Tol - A broken heart for a soulful lament
Samboleap Tol is a Dutch Khmer artist and researcher based in Rotterdam. As an artist, she wonders what was left behind in 'the motherland' and what was gained in 'the new world' by researching knowledge carriers. 'What would our grandparents, had they not been colonised, have given us as advice?'
Issa Harissa
For some years now, local hero Issa Harissa has been quietly working on a rap repertoire that will make you both fall silent and get very warm indeed. This raw Antwerp diamond is not to be missed for fans of underground hip-hop!
Uwase
Uwase is a young singer-songwriter and producer from Brussels. She crystalises disarmingly honest indie pop gems from her most intimate thoughts. ‘Pink skies ahead’, her latest EP, makes you yearn for the sweet pain of your first breakup. Don’t come between a girl and her guitar.
Ruben Chi x Bob Sizoo - TranscendAnce
How de we as performers and audience transcend our experience of dance? Transcendance explores the boundaries of dance and the fusion of this research and dialogue through multiple mediums.
A live and real-time dance experiment where visual artist Bob Sizoo uses his artwork as a mechanism to change our perception and observation of dance and it’s form, evoking movement, concentration and co creating a dialogue between dancer and painting. A new and exciting narrative that will be exploring movement and form with the center being our vocal point of attention.
You can watch the dance battle, talk and these acts one after another in our Theatre and Music Studio. Buy a ticket to be sure not to miss out!
