Experience a new evening full of surprising interventions at the Kunstenplein on Saturday. DE SINGEL will open its completely renovated corridors and central hall to the public for the first time. This open space will become a place for encounters and art in all its forms. Next to the performance A Year Without Summer, you can enjoy a rich programme of interventions - all accessible free of charge. We do ask you to register.
17:00 - 20:00 Food truck Kapitän
Artists' Bar
17:00 - 23:00 Colectivo Los Ingrávidos (Video)
Expoplein
Colectivo Los Ingrávidos is an artists' collective that emerged during the mass protests against the Mexican government in 2012. Fearing reprisals in a country where journalists are regularly murdered, they shared their work anonymously via a YouTube channel.
17:00 - 20:00 Students of the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp led by Samuel Baidoo (Dance)
Kunstenplein (continuous)
Throughout the evening, a group of dancers will move in a slow-motion parade through the new corridor. Come and watch and slow down with them. The longer you stay, the more the rules of this tranquil exercise will unfold before you.
17:00 - 17:20 Nico Couck - Grab it (Jacob TV) (Music)
Kunstenplein
Originally composed for saxophone, Jacob Ter Veldhuis' Grab it! explores the grey area between speech and music: based on speech fragments from prisoners serving life sentences, it explores the emotional world of speech through jazz, rock and blues influences. The result is a continuous “battle” between Nico Couck's electric guitar and the non-stop stream of words and one-liners.
17:00 - 17:30 Zwerm - Preview Calling Songs (Music)
Courtyard
Calling Songs is a sound installation by Zwerm that was created to be played at outdoor locations where there are choirs of frogs or insects. The players try to add their voices to the choir. At locations where the animals can be clearly heard, the musicians play a subordinate role. At locations where there are few or no animals, the musicians play the leading role.
18:00 - 18:15 Fleur Khani / Hazel (Music)
Kunstenplein
In her showcase, Fleur Khani presents a short teaser of her album Sim Sala Bim, which will be released in October 2025. It is a journey through exile, longing, dreams and resistance - to come together in the free haven of music and art.
19:00 - 19:35 Aart Strootman / Nemø ensemble / Arturo den Hartog / Nico Couck (Music)
Kunstenplein
Under the direction of conductor/composer Aart Strootman, the Nemø ensemble, together with countertenor Arturo den Hartog, will perform one of James Tenney's unique participatory works: In a large open space (1994), a spatial sound composition in which the audience is free to move around. The audience is literally surrounded by sound. Handmade tubular bells specially designed for this composition will play a major role in this performance.
22:15 - 22:45 Stef Van Looveren - OPUS I (2025) (Performance)
Kunstenplein
Stef Van Looveren will inspire the new DE SINGEL corridor with a unique intervention: a ritual procession that consecrates the space and imbues it with an artistic spirit.
22:45 - 00:00 Mati Drome (DJ set)
Kunstenplein
Performance artist and party promoter Mati Drome will bring the evening to a close with a mix of electro and wave.
