As an opening to Radiant Nights, Saturday Service takes inspiration from the form of a church service. An attempt at a reclamation and appropriation of a religious ceremony that is so often violent to those who are black and queer and femme. Saturday Service says, FUCK THAT SHIT! I AM BLACK, I AM FEMME, I AM QUEER, I AM DIVINE!
In the style of the Radiant Readings, Saturday Service will include spoken word poetry in a relaxed and informal environment from artists Somalia Williamson, Xana and Kopano Maroga. We invite you for a brief moment to join us in this experiment in momentary, beloved community.
