Anna Viebrock - Het Toneelhuis - GEANNULEERD
Verlaten
Anna Viebrock is mainly known as a brilliant stage designer, but she recently made her debut as a theatre director. For her guest production at Het Toneelhuis, she chose to make her own adaptation of a realist novel written in 1887 by Joris-Karl Huysmans, 'En rade' ('Verlaten', 'Lost'). Huymans, a contemporary of Emile Zola, was the first writer to publish a novel about a prostitute (Marthe), for which he was branded a 'decadent'. The stylistic mastery of 'En Rade' demonstrates why André Breton considered Huysmans to be one of the forerunners of Surrealism. This music-theatre project is still in preparation.
