Would you like to see the American choreographer William Forsythe, the Croatian performer Ivana Jozic and the Belgian saxophone player Eric Sleichim at work from close up? If so, you should see 'Angel of Death'. All three play the role of the Angel of Death. The first does so on video and the other two live on stage. Ivana Jozic uses words and Eric Sleichim music. The audience is seated between four enormous screens with the performer in the middle. In this way you become intimately involved in this impressive performance that ranges from theatre performance to video installation. Jan Fabre wrote 'Angel of Death' in 1996; it is a tribute to the pop art icon Andy Warhol. Fabre gave the piece the subtitle of 'a monologue for a man, woman or hermaphrodite'. In this monologue the I-person finds himself in a post mortem state, situated between life and death. In this time vacuum he attempts to put together his identity once more. He oscillates between confessions to the audience and enveloping himself in ambiguity and questions. We encounter many of Fabre's fascinations: double identity, dualism, and also contradiction of being an artist. This often balances between publicity, fame and anonymity. This rerun will be staged in the newly opened theatre laboratory run by Jan Fabre's production company, Troubleyn.
PLEASE NOTE! Due to changes in their schedule, Troubleyn has cancelled the performance on Saturday 24 March.
