duration
1h It is a warm, humid, dusty day. Jan Fabre wrote this play for Ivana Jozic as an ode to love in the form of letters. It was inspired by the 1967 song 'Ode to Billy Joe'. The American singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry sings the song in the first person. She tells us about how a girl, after a day's hard labour, is sitting at table with her family and almost casually hears of the death of her beloved. The girl is stuck dumb while the rest of the family speculates about Billy Joe's suicide. What possessed him to jump off the Tallahatchie Bridge in Mississippi? Our curiosity is gradually aroused: what did the girl and Billy throw off the bridge a few days before and what form did their secret relationship take? The singer does not answer our questions, however. Are you interested in discovering how this ballad of love and death and social justice stirs Fabre's imagination? And how the Croatian dancer and performer Ivana Jozic gives shape to Bobbie Gentry's protagonist all alone on stage? Come and see in October!
