Khadija El Kharraz Alami
Nu ben ik Medea
Khadija El Kharraz Alami engages in dialogue with the mythological figure Medea.
In Nu ben ik Medea in-house artist Khadija El Kharraz Alami interweaves her love of the classical repertoire with autobiographical elements. Growing up in between Moroccan and Dutch culture, she searched for her own path between various traditions, cultures and beliefs. During Spotlight on Georgia she sets to work with the mythical Medea, who according to legend hails from Georgia. Euripides’ character becomes an alter ego with whom El Kharraz Alami engages in dialogue and looks back at her own life.
Art is never detached from everyday reality. As an international arts center, every year we present several artists who experience serious consequences of violent conflicts. This includes the escalating violence in Israel and Palestine.
DE SINGEL stands for connecting people and communities through art. As an arts organization, we condemn any form of violence. We feel solidarity with all victims and with those who have to live in degrading conditions.
In consultation with artists and art houses, DE SINGEL wants to offer help to the innocent victims from the affected region.
To this end, we donate the ticket revenue from this production to Oxfam, which is active on the ground.Oxfam teams are ready to intervene with local partner organizations as soon as the violence stops. The people of Gaza are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
