One hundred years after the outbreak of WWI, director Luk Perceval takes you to a world that is torn apart. He shows you both sides of the front lines in the war: the Germans and the Allies, consisting of Belgian, French and British troops. This war, with an estimated ten million victims, was fought in the western part of Flanders and marked a turning point in the international balance of power at the beginning of the twentieth century. Old-world powers perished and new powers, such as America and the Soviet Union, appeared on the horizon. ‘Front Polyphonie’ is conceived as a semi-documentary with the aim of illuminating the historical impact and the horrors of the first ‘industrialized’ war. The piece was inspired by the shocking novel ‘Im Westen nichts Neues’ (‘All Quiet on the Western Front’) by Erich Paul Remark, a German soldier who fought in the trenches on the western front. The unhappy fate of the Allies is described in letters and other archive documents. ‘Front Polyphonie’ is performed by a mixed cast of German and Flemish actors.
