Meg Stuart focuses on unusual, often poignant aspects of human behaviour. How does she approach a comedy? This question intrigued those in charge of the Salzburger Festspiele and they invited her to make a comic production. She accepted the challenge and persuaded people like the French choreographer Boris Charmatz to join the adventure. We on our side decided to support this exciting project. How do we deal with painful situations? With the moments in time when the tranquillity of our everyday lives is disrupted by trauma? This is the starting point of 'It's not funny' In Meg Stuart's case, humour is often a complex cocktail that leaves you with a bittersweet aftertaste. She examines how we adapt to social situations. We often wear masks that dictate what we do. Until we lose control. The result is uncomfortable silences and awkward conversations. Our carefully constructed illusion is shattered, only to be replaced with shame. 'It's not funny' promises to be a comic play in which your blood curdles and laughter freezes.
