Meg Stuart
Meg Stuart (b. 1965 / USA. Lives in New York), choreographer.
She studied dance at New York University and until 1992 was a member of the Randy Warshaw Dance Company. In 1989 she created her first dance performance, 'Disfigure Study', commissioned by the Klapstuk international dance festival in Leuven. Since 1994 she and her 'Damaged Goods' dance company have operated from Brussels. She has collaborated with the composer Vincent Malstaf, the graphic designer Bruce Mau and the artists Ann Hamilton and Gary Hill. Since 2001, Damaged Goods has been in residence at the Schauspielhaus in Zürich.
Stuart's best-known choreographic works include 'Insert Skin' (1996), 'Crash Landing' (1997), 'Splayed Mind Out' (1998), 'Highway 101' (2000), 'Alibi Alibi' (2001) and 'Visitors Only' (2003). In 2003 Damaged Goods entered into collaboration with the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. In 2000 Meg Stuart was awarded the Culture Prize of the Catholic University of Leuven.
