‘With Funeral, Ontroerend Goed creates a collective ritual about the finiteness of things. It will start in the dark. We will greet one another and bid farewell. There will be singing and dissimulation. Then there will be light and room for darkness. We will light candles, we will eat and drink and celebrate together that we will live for a long time. And then it will end. Welcome.’
With these words the performance and theatre company Ontroerend Goed invites you for a participatory performance about death, transience, grief, comfort and bidding farewell. Funeral is a ceremony, a new ritual that brings people together - whatever they believe, are, or think. Because everything is finite and we have to learn to live with that as humans. And bidding farewell is not something you do alone. Director Alexander Devriendt leads this cerebral performance, with Joris Blanckaert and Hector Devriendt providing the music.
