Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Rosas dance to early Philip Glass.
Two women. Four movements. That was all Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker needed to create Fase. With this groundbreaking choreography set to the early works of Steve Reich, she redefined the foundations of contemporary dance in 1982.
More than 40 years later, De Keersmaeker turns once again to early works - this time by Philip Glass. His compositions from the 1960s, such as Music in Contrary Motion and Music in Fifths are every bit as radically minimalist as the young Reich's work.
The new performance GLA55 is built around ten circular and spiral movements, through which De Keersmaeker explores the limits of perseverance. For 55 minutes, six dancers traverse the stage. With GLA55, De Keersmaeker does what she has excelled at throughout her career: pushing abstract minimalist material to its extremes.
