Sarathy Korwar is a drummer, composer, producer, and bandleader who DE SINGEL audiences may remember from his performance with Anoushka Shankar in 2024.
Korwar is regarded as one of the most original voices in the British jazz scene. His music merges jazz, electronica, and Indian folk and classical traditions, often addressing themes such as decoloniality, community, identity, and transcendence.
His recent album There Is Beauty, There Already is a 40-minute suite of hypnotic drum improvisations. The music pulses within a repetitive, circular structure that references Indian folk music, percussion ensembles like Max Roach’s M’Boom, and the minimalism of composers such as Terry Riley and Steve Reich.
