Jan Martens studied at the Fontys Hogeschool in Tilburg before completing his dance training at the Royal Flemish Conservatoire in Antwerp. Since then, he has taken international stages and audience’s hearts by storm. The beauty of human imperfection is given a prominent role in his work.
Jan Martens made his international breakthrough with ‘The Dog Days Are Over’, a choreography from 2014. Eight dancers surrender themselves to a single movement: the jump.
The starting point for the performance is a quote from the American photographer Philippe Halsman: “If you ask someone to jump, his attention will be focused on the act of jumping itself, his mask will slip and the true person will be revealed.”
