Maria Baroncea studied choreography at the University of Bucharest. Following her studies, she danced in performances choreographed by, amongst others, Manuel Pelmus. It was in his creation 'Punct Fix' that she took her first steps on the deSingel stage in 2003. Her work was seen in 'Directory Tattoo' by Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke. She immediately made an impression as a dancer with considerable presence. In 'Ode to the artificial', a piece commissioned and co-produced by deSingel, she regards the stage as an unwritten page whose shape is fixed but where everything is also possible. Like with playing children. The form of their game is recognisable, but do we also know what is going on inside them?
