An attempt to understand my socio-political disposition through artistic research into personal identity in relation to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict (40 min.)
The American-Palestinian performer Tarek Halaby, born in Riyad, danced with various companies and choreographers in New York for three years before relocating to Brussels in order to follow a course at PARTS (Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's school). The solo performance you will see this evening, his graduation project, immediately marked him out for success. As a born performer and an accomplished stand-up comedian, he knows how to manipulate the audience. He talks about why he didn't succeed in dance, how he grapples with his identity and about the Palestinian question. In this confrontational and often hilarious monologue, Tarek Halaby shows that the best humour is that which makes you laugh for ten seconds and then think for ten minutes.
