Blindman has devised a transcription for saxophone quartet from the four 'Choral partitas' by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach would have written this organ piece at around the age of fifteen, but later revised it. The choral partita is a variation cycle with a simple succession of different 'adventures' based around the same theme. The work testifies to Bach's great ingenuity, in which he employed the technique of variation. Using a modern set of instruments, Blindman gives new shape to the music. The exceptional sound spectrum of the saxophones adequately evokes the stern tones of certain baroque organs, similarly producing the velvety sound of an oboe d'amore from the most beautiful of Bach's arias. The choral partitas are set against Bach's pure chorales, sung by the project choir led by Christoph Siebert.
