BRYGGEN brings Michael Gordon's cult hit Weather to life in breathtaking soundscapes.
The American composer Michael Gordon wrote Weather back in 1997. So the co-founder of the famous collective Bang on a Can was already paying attention to the climate crisis almost thirty years ago. The work became a cult hit, and fresh life was breathed into it in 2022 by the Manchester Collective. In collaboration with sound artist Chris Watson, known for his work on the documentary Frozen Planet with David Attenborough, and a filmmaker, they made sound recordings in various unique locations: a rainforest in East Asia, the oldest desert in the world, a glacier in Iceland and the medieval town of Dunwich off the coast of England that has now disappeared underwater. The combination of soundscapes recorded on location with Gordon's menacing thunderous music creates a special concert experience that is sure to move you. The Flemish string ensemble BRYGGEN brings this production to life at DE SINGEL, complete with the original film footage. Especially for BRYGGEN, Watson has adapted his soundscapes to create an even more urgent counterpoint.
