Crystal art meets contemporary music in a hallucinatory experience of light and sound.
Composer Heleen Van Haegenborgh joins forces with cellist Benjamin Glorieux. Inspired by the crystal artworks of Val-Saint-Lambert, the Belgian crystal and glass factory in Seraing, Van Haegenborgh wrote Crystal not Crystal. This brand-new composition for cello, electronica and resonant crystal objects brings together modern technology and traditional handicrafts, with the contemporary high-tech norm standing beside age-old craft. The virtuoso cello part predominates and is echoed in the play of light with the glasswork that is sometimes as much as 100 years old. Geert Vanoorlé is responsible for the lighting design. Together with the composer and the cellist, he offers a hallucinogenic immersive experience. After this evening at DE SINGEL, a crystal glass design will never be the same again.
