A palpable hunger for adventurous, multimedia and pluridisciplinary repertoire. This is probably the best way to describe the distinct identity of in-house artist Nadar Ensemble. And it’s also the basis of their durable alliance with star composer Simon Steen-Andersen, who is equally fond of crossing the boundaries between music, image and performance. His Black Box Music is what you might describe as a contemporary classic. Based on an inventive live projection, Steen-Andersen questions musical performance practice. But equally, new technologies can build a bridge to the turbulent outside world. Joanna Bailie’s Horizon - commissioned by DE SINGEL - is constructed around an audio-visual assemblage of motorways and railways, captured in Antwerp, Berlin, Geneva and Portugal. With her work, Bailie wants to draw our attention to the interchangeability of these generic vistas. In Outer Space, Pierre Jodlowski questions the virtual space in which the modern individual constantly threatens to lose themselves.
