A catchy combination of traditional Arabic music, jazz and pop.
The French-Algerian cellist and singer-songwriter Nesrine creates a catchy combination of traditional Arabic music, jazz and pop. Originally trained as a classical cellist, she has played in Daniel Barenboim’s East Western Divan Orchestra, amongst others. Her debut album Ahlam from 2018 came as a musical revelation. At times she plucks her cello like a guembri, an African lute-like instrument used in Gnawa music. Then the rich quarter tone embellishments that are indispensable to Arabic music sound out. And there is always her sultry, intoxicating voice.
