Toine Thys Overseas Quintet
Overseas
OVERSEAS is an atmospheric cruise through jazz, Arabian music and Brazilian rhythms.
→ Two world stars, one ticket: Anouar Brahem + Toine Thys Overseas Quintet
In a cosmopolitan restaurant in the heart of Brussels, the saxophonist Toine Thys and the Egyptian oud player Ihab Radwan met one another for the first time during a spontaneous jam session. The seed was planted for OVERSEAS: a quintet in which not only Western jazz and Arabic music come together, but also the Brazilian rhythms of percussionist Zé Luis Nascimento, the classical cello playing of Annemie Osborne and the piano playing of omnivore Harmen Fraanje. OVERSEAS is melting pot of five different musical personalities with an huge appetite for adventure. Together they seek out what binds them, with respect for everyone’s integrity. Compellingly, they achieve a musical unity that is overflowing with the joy of life.
