Radiant Nights #6
POWER
Four times a year, Radiant Nights is a space for creation and experimentation that eschews conventions. For a whole evening, artists take over part of the building. Radiant Nights offers an insight into the arts landscape of today and tomorrow: large and small-scale work, ranging from the obscure to the fragile to the experimental. Centre stage are versatile artists who think beyond the binary and seek out the in-between space. The spaces between different disciplines, themes, genres, bodies. Their work is radical, exciting and surprising. Radiant.
Radiant Nights #6: POWER revolves around balances of power. Via various performances we take a deeper look at the micro and macro workings of power. How do we embody internal hierarchy ourselves? How is power expressed through language? How can you dominate a crowd using choreography?
The evening is divided into two circuits. As a spectator, you can choose the performance Left and Right by Molly Joyce, Jerron Herman and Max Greyson. They explore internalised and embodied views of left and right. As a support programme you can lose yourself in the darkness of Max Greyson and Saïd Gharbi, a try-out in which sound, touch and visibility are called into question.
Or you can opt for the première of The Third Room, the new work by Christine De Smedt, Liza Baliasnaja and Theo Livesey. They explore the concept of ‘low-intensity’ violence. Or how unequal balances of power are expressed in sometimes unconscious but violent ways.
Finally the two circuits come together in the concert performance Aphasia by Jelena Jureša. In a compelling event she explores and stages the psychology of the crowd. We close with a concert by Junior Akwety, where poetry and Congolese sounds come together with melodies by a new generation of artists. In collaboration with master students of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp and Jeroen Malaise. A warm listening experience!
The evening consists of two circuits. A ticket gives access to one circuit (a circuit comprises two performances plus soup). (€12 in advance // €15 on the night). Admission to the Junior Akwety concert on the Expoplein is free.
