Crickets, frogs, grasshoppers and cicadas - insects and amphibians we know primarily through their voices. Thousands of them hide in meadows and wetlands, while all we glimpse is a ripple on the water or a slight movement in the grass. Together, they create a rich chorus of calls and songs.
Like birds, crickets and frogs tell us stories about the pace of climate change, the quality of our water and land, and the state of biodiversity. During Dear Antwerp, house artist Zwerm ventures into the Hobokense Polder to create Calling Songs. Blending the sounds of small experimental synthesizers and guitar pedals with the calls of local animals, they create a temporary composition that invites humans to listen differently to the living landscape around them.
This performance begins with a 20-minute audio walk.
